About the Designer:
Marcel Wanders grew up in Boxtel, the Netherlands, and graduated cum laude from the School of the Arts Arnhem in 1988. Marcel Wanders' fame started with his iconic Knotted Chair, which he produced for Droog in 1996. He is now ubiquitous, designing for the biggest European contemporary design manufacturers like B&B Italia, Bisazza, Poliform, Moroso, Flos, Boffi, Cappellini, Droog and Moooi of which he is also art director and co-owner. Additionally, Marcel Wanders works on architectural and interior design projects and recently turned his attention to consumer home appliances.
Designs of Marcel Wanders are in collections and exhibitions all over the world, like the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, the V&A Museum in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Central Museum in Utrecht, Museum of Decorative Arts Copenhagen and various Droog exhibitions. Works of Marcel Wanders have been published in all leading design magazines.
Droog started in 1993 as a statement on design, a no-nonsense, down to earth design mentality. Their unique way of thinking has defined as a conceptual design company over the last 16 years, and has played a role in defining Dutch design internationally. Droog values what it means to be human, including subjectivity, notions of beauty and meaning, and desire for high quality experiences at the core of what they do. Droog stands for a luxury of content and experience that change perspective on daily life-- whether it is authenticity, humor, slowness, engagement, or nature, the abundance of what is scarce is true luxury.
